Welcome to Avanzamos Unidos (AU), where we focus on addressing systemic barriers faced by the Latine community in Ohio, with a particular emphasis on economic empowerment, environmental justice, and educational equity. Our constituency includes Latine individuals across Ohio, spanning different socio-economic backgrounds and generations. We prioritize engaging with communities that have historically been marginalized and underserved.
The year 2024 presented a significant opportunity for Avanzamos Unidos to expand our work and deepen our impact in Ohio. That’s why we launched our "Vota Ohio" electoral campaign — to reach Latine voters with the information they need to vote for candidates that will make a difference for our communities. By engaging and empowering Latine voters across Ohio, we are committed to building a more equitable and inclusive future that extends to all residents of our state!

MULTI-GENERATIONAL, BILINGUAL OHIOANS MAKE OVER 46,000 CALLS TO LATINE VOTERS ACROSS THE STATE IN 11 DAYS
November 7, 2024 - Avanzamos Unidos (AU) launched the Vota Ohio campaign, hiring a multi-generational, hybrid, and bilingual phone banking team of 6 people to call Latino voters in the last two weeks before the 2024 election cycle. The Vota Ohio team connected with close to 450 Latine voters across the state to share our endorsements of Senator Sherrod Brown, Justice Michael Donnelly, Judge Lisa Forbes, and Justice Melody J. Stewart. AU is immensely proud of the efforts made to increase voter turnout and encourage their support of the candidates, despite the losses they sustained.
”Vota Ohio was more than just a job, it was that commitment to the natural calling we carry within us. Those few minutes we spent with each family marked my life forever,” Genesis shared. “Many of us emigrate in search of a better quality of life and many times that dream and/or desire is cut short for reasons beyond our control. Speaking with those people made me feel that we are giving them back a glimmer of hope.”
Through our conversations, we learned that voters had significant issues finding information about the voting process and candidates in Spanish. Tuesday’s election results made it clear that the fight to secure fair elections and true democracy must continue. AU will continue to build multi-class, multi-generational Latine grassroots power by investing in our community members and offering opportunities for partisan civic engagement and leadership.
Executive Director Selina Pagán said, “At a time when Latine voters experience ongoing systemic barriers, our small and mighty team engaged in crucial conversations with Latine voters in order to foster a more equitable Ohio for all and ensure that our communities exercised their political power. Imagine what we could have achieved with more resources and more time.”
Alongside our community efforts, we will continue pushing for our local and state-level representatives to meet the needs of Ohio's diverse communities and implement policies that promote economic, social, and racial justice.
